Title of Regulation: 18VAC85-20. Regulations Governing the Practice of Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Podiatry, and Chiropractic.

Statutory Authority: § 54.1-2400 of the Code of Virginia.

Name of Petitioner: Sue Cressel.

Nature of Petitioner's Request: To amend 18VAC85-20-90, which sets out the requirements for prescribing weight-loss drugs, to allow nurse practitioners to prescribe without the patient being seen by the physician.

Agency Plan for Disposition of Request: The petition will be published on March 24, 2014, in the Register of Regulations and also posted on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall at www.townhall.virginia.gov to receive public comment ending April 23, 2014. Following receipt of all comments on the petition to amend regulations, the board will decide whether to make any changes to the regulatory language. This matter will be on the board's agenda for its meeting on June 19, 2014.

Initial Agency Notice

Title of Regulation: 18VAC140-20. Regulations Governing the Practice of Social Work.

Statutory Authority: § 54.1-2400 of the Code of Virginia.

Name of Petitioner: Rodney McMurray.

Nature of Petitioner's Request: To reduce the continuing education requirement for supervisors to refresher courses of three to five hours of training in supervision every five years.

Agency Plan for Disposition of Request: In accordance with Virginia law, the petition was filed with the Register of Regulations and will be published on March 24, 2014, with a request for comment to be received until April 23, 2014. The petition will also be posted for comment on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall at www.townhall.virginia.gov. At the next meeting held after the close of the comment period, scheduled for April 25, 2014, the board will consider the petition and any comment received to decide whether or not to initiate the rulemaking process. Should the board decide to respond by initiating regulatory action, the regulatory process typically takes at least 18-24 months to complete.
