Notice is hereby given in accordance with § 2.2-4007.01 of the Code of Virginia that the Board of Social Work intends to consider amending 18VAC140-20, Regulations Governing the Practice of Social Work. The purpose of the proposed action is to update the regulation following a periodic review. The review identified several areas in need of amending, including clarifying terminology and requirements for licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed master's social workers, and licensed baccalaureate social workers; reviewing the definition of ancillary services for comprehensiveness and clarity; including diagnosing third parties and providing children sex education without express parental consent as actions that constitute unprofessional conduct; removing redundant provisions, terms, and definitions; clarifying responsibilities of supervisors of LCSW candidates; and adding organizations for approval of continuing education.

The agency intends to hold a public hearing on the proposed action after publication in the Virginia Register.
