BOARD OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Notice of Intended Regulatory Action

Notice is hereby given in accordance with § 2.2-4007.01 of the Code of Virginia that the Board of Housing and Community Development intends to consider amending 13VAC5-52, Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code. The purpose of the proposed action is to update the Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC) to incorporate by reference the 2024 edition of the model codes from the International Code Council, which are nationally recognized model building codes and standards. The SFPC provides for the regulation of structure maintenance, processes, and premises and provides safeguards for the protection of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion and for the handling, storage, and use of fireworks, explosives, or blasting agents. This action will also consider amendments to the administrative and enforcement provisions of the regulation.

The agency intends to hold a public hearing on the proposed action after publication in the Virginia Register.
